Reports that the Cubs had a meeting with the free-agent second baseman Kaz Matsui's representative have me not only scratching my head, but wanting to chop it off at the neck with a chainsaw to stop the throbbing.
1. Mark DeRosa is signed for two more years to play second.
2. Reserve Mike Fontenot is a better player than Kaz Matsui.
3. Newly acquired Omar Infante is a better player than Kaz Matsui.
4. Last year, Kaz Matsui hit .249 with no home runs and a .309 on-base percentage in 55 road games. And .330 in Colorado's Coors Field.
Earth to Jim Hendry...Earth to Jim Hendry...why would you even waste a lunch date on this guy?
