The 22

Cheers to Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) for introducing a House resolution to impeach Vice President Cheney for "high crimes and misdemeanors." Cheers also to the 21 co-sponsors of this bill:

Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)
Bob Brady (D-PA)
Yvette Clarke (D-NY)
Bill Clay (D-MO)
Steve Cohen (D-TN)
Keith Ellison (D-MN)
Sam Farr (D-CA)
Bob Filner (D-CA)
Sheila Jackson (D-TX)
Hank Johnson (D-GA)
Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-MI)
Barbara Lee (D-CA)
Jim McDermott (D-WA)
Jim Moran (D-VA)
Donald Payne (D-NJ)
Jan Schakowsky (D-IL)
Edolphus Towns (D-NY)
Maxine Waters (D-CA)
Diane Watson (D-CA)
Lynn Woolsey (D-CA)
Albert Wynn (D-MD)

I have no idea what's wrong with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who blocked discussion of the bill in the House Judiciary Committee. All this time I thought that the Democratic leadership got the message of last winter's elections. I guess not.

I also have no idea what's wrong with Senators Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein, who caved in this week and vowed to support Bush's nominee for Attorney General, Michael Mukasey, who won't even tell us whether waterboarding is torture. Not that he thinks it is or isn't--that he doesn't know. Sure he doesn't.

So thanks, Chuck, thanks, Diane, for giving this lame-duck, know-nothing president exactly what he wants--more obfuscation, more confusion, and a blank check to continue to do whatever he wants. Thanks for caring more about driving the Democrats further toward the mythical "center," a moronic strategy that has killed you since 1980, than about serving the people you purport to represent.

It's up to this party to demonstrate somehow, in some way, that they understand. This criminal, destructive, useless war must end NOW.

When the Dems call to ask me for money these days, I tell them that I won't send any. Not unless they grow a spine.

My neutered female lab has more balls than our elected officials (gender and party irrelevant).

It's getting difficult to tell me children with a straight face that this is still our country.

"No, Adam, waterboarding isn't humane. Yes, Ethan, there is a Geneva Convention. The people who follow it's guidelines are actual human beings. These are dogs, boys, dogs who follow the scent of bloodmoney."

I'm exhausted. I'm pissed. And I'm running out of patience!

Adenia,
You have my sympathy. I don't know how parents can explain this stuff to their kids. The huge disconnect between how we WANT America to be and how it is has so many consequences...

You have summarized the present state of affairs perfectly. Dennis Kucinich is also the only candidate who spoke out at the debate for single payor universal health care which is the ONLY moral and ethical way to deliver health care in our nation. Health care is a human right. It should not be based on whose insurance plan or how much money one has. It should not be a for profit business where insurance company execs take home million and even billion dollar salaries with stock options and do so by denying services! I believe Barck Obama will support the same if elected since he wrote that in his book but he is not stating that. So far he is the only person I could vote for apart from Dennis Kucinich who doesn't seem to stand a chance. It is equally hard to explain things to our kids as it is to my friends and relatives in Europe!
